Cultural events held in Lemnos and Veria

The 37th Meeting of Aegean Amateur Theatre Groups opened on October 15 in Lemnos. The event, held at the Maroula Open Air Cinema, features performances such as Neil Simon’s ‘The Boobies’ and includes an exhibition of Dimitris Vamvakousis’s ‘Theatrical Quartets in the Aegean’ at the Galiouri Hall.

Local officials and representatives from the Aegean Amateur Theatre Federation emphasized the role of culture in social cohesion and the importance of decentralized artistic creation. The Mayor of Lemnos, Eleonora Georgas, highlighted the support of the municipality in bringing performances to more residents despite geographic challenges.

In another cultural development, the Byzantine Museum of Veria hosted the opening of the exhibition ‘Evidence of Faith and Art.’ The collection showcases portable icons and woodcuts from churches in Naoussa, dating back to the late 16th century. The exhibition features significant examples of post-Byzantine painting and woodcarving from the Macedonia region, including items recently returned from Bulgaria.
