Cultural events highlight Cuban literature and Chilean historical memory

Various cultural institutions are hosting events focused on literature and historical memory.

The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), through the Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas and the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, has partnered with Rialta to host a series of virtual talks with Cuban narrators. This cycle, coordinated by Ivonne Sánchez Becerril, features six sessions scheduled for September 2026. The talks serve as a precursor to the II Jornadas de narrativa cubana reciente, with in-person sessions planned for October 2026 in Mexico City.

In Chile, the Teatro Camilo Henríquez is presenting ‘Crónicas de reporteros’ as part of its Ciclo de Memoria. The production reconstructs journalistic experiences during the military dictatorship, specifically addressing the ‘Caso Quemados’ involving the deaths and injuries of youths during a 1986 protest. The play features testimonies from journalists Orlando Milesi, Carmen Mera, and Julio Salviat, covering various historical milestones from the 1970s through the 1990s.
