Cultural events highlight regional wine heritage in Spain
Two distinct cultural events in Spain will showcase the historical and social significance of local wine traditions.
In Jumilla, the Association for the Development of the Northeast (ADC Nordeste) will present documentary shorts titled ‘Jumilla. Ruteando Murcia Rural’ and ‘Ruta del Vino de Jumilla. Ruteando Murcia Rural’. These films are part of the ‘Murcia Rural’ cooperation project, aimed at promoting the heritage and resources of rural municipalities. The event will also feature a documentary on the ‘Hermanas López Martínez. Restaurante Loreto’, highlighting the role of rural women entrepreneurs in economic and social development.
In Logroño, anthropologist Luis Vicente Elías Pastor will present ‘El vino antes del tren’, a historical study focused on the Calle de las Cuevas in Haro. The research explores the area's vital role in wine production before the arrival of the railway. The study notes that between 1870 and 1876, the Calle de las Cuevas accounted for one-third of Haro's wine production, documenting a period of significant economic and territorial transformation.
