Cultural events in Italy explore Dante Alighieri's literary themes

Various cultural initiatives in Italy are scheduled to examine the works of Dante Alighieri. In Gualdo Tadino, an event titled “Oriente: San Francesco nel Paradiso di Dante” will take place at the Mediateca of the “Pietro Conti” Museum of Emigration on October 23. The session, part of the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, will feature Luigi Girlanda and Silvia Alunno, with musical accompaniment by violinist Cecilia Bellucci. The discussion will focus on the eleventh canto of Paradise.

In Mantua, the Teresiana Municipal Library will host a presentation of the book “Dante e il mare” by philologist Donato Pirovano on October 24. Pirovano, a professor of Dante philology at the State University of Milan, will discuss the symbolic and metaphorical significance of the sea in the Divine Comedy. The event, part of the “Memoria Dantis: temi e semantemi” cycle, explores themes of navigation and the pursuit of knowledge, specifically referencing the figure of Ulysses.
