Cultural events in Lisbon and Barreiro focus on war history
Cultural events in Portugal include a musical recital titled ‘Humanity in War’ and a guided historical exhibition tour.
On October 18, the Trio Amatis and singer Thomas Quasthoff will perform at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. The program explores the human impact of World War I by interspersing musical works from composers such as Schubert, Schumann, and Chostakovitch with readings from letters and diaries written during the conflict.
In Barreiro, historian José Pacheco Pereira is conducting guided tours of the exhibition ‘A Outra Guerra’ (The Other War) at Armazém 150. The exhibition, organized by Arquivo Ephemera, examines Portuguese propaganda produced during World War II and is scheduled to remain open until December 31, 2026.
