Cultural events mark 25th anniversary of September 11

Various cultural and community organizations are hosting events to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

In Northern Virginia, the Keegan Theatre and Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS) are partnering for the world premiere of ‘A Beautiful Blue Morning Sky’. This chamber song cycle uses music and storytelling to honor those impacted by the attacks. Proceeds from the performances scheduled for September 11–13 will support NVFS and its trauma-informed care initiatives, including the legacy of the Survivors’ Fund Project.

In Des Moines, the Des Moines Playhouse is presenting the musical ‘ComeFrom Away’. The production tells the story of the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, who provided hospitality to thousands of diverted airline passengers following the closure of U.S. airspace in 2001. Additionally, the White Eagle Multicultural Powwow will take place from September 11–13 at Jester Park, featuring traditional drumming, dancing, and storytelling.
