Cultural exhibitions and music projects highlight female identity and Mediterranean memory in Spain
Musician Seserino is releasing a new single, ‘Autoretrat’, which aims to reclaim the identities of women who served as models and muses but remained anonymous in art history. The song is inspired by a portrait in the Museu de Belles Arts de Castelló, specifically the ‘Retrat de la senyora de Bardasano’, which historically identified the subject only by her husband’s surname. The project seeks to highlight the identity of Juana Francisca Rubio, an artist and poster designer from the Second Spanish Republic.
The musical presentation will take place on October 16 at IVAM CADA in Alcoy as an immersive experience. This event will feature a music video directed by Helga Ambak, depicting a muse breaking free from her frame to gain agency.
In a separate cultural event, Assumpció Mateu is opening an exhibition titled ‘Les Ombres del Blau’ at La Ciutadella de Roses. Running until December 20, the exhibition uses the color blue and various textures to explore the Mediterranean as a space of memory, cultural exchange, and contemporary social issues such as migration and borders.
