Cultural exhibitions highlight Karlovci Metropolitanate and Francis II Rákóczi

Several cultural exhibitions are currently opening in the region, focusing on religious and national historical legacies.

In Serbia, the Matica srpska Gallery is hosting an exhibition titled ‘Art in the Service of Faith: The Light and Glory of the Karlovci Metropolitanate’. The event explores the three-century history and artistic heritage of the Karlovci Metropolitanate, ranging from simple icons to ornate iconostases and portrait paintings. Accompanying programs include lectures on how Western heraldry influenced the Orthodox elite within the Habsburg Monarchy and guided tours led by art history students.

In Slovakia, the MaJel Rovás exhibition hall in Košice has opened two distinct displays. One focuses on the 1906 reburial of Prince Francis II Rákóczi in Košice. The second, titled ‘In the Footsteps of Rákóczi and Kuruc Memories in Europe’, was prepared by the Association of Hungarians in the World for Hungarian Memories (MEVE). The exhibitions coincide with the 350th anniversary of Rákóczi’s birth and the 120th anniversary of his reburial, examining his legacy of struggle for national independence.
