Cultural exhibitions honor filmmakers and photographers in Dominican Republic and Menorca
Cultural institutions in the Dominican Republic and Spain are highlighting the historical legacies of influential figures in cinema and photography.
In the Dominican Republic, the Cinemateca Dominicana is presenting an exhibition titled ‘Óscar Torres: una mirada universal desde el Caribe’ as part of the XXVIII Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2026. The exhibition honors Torres, a filmmaker, critic, and researcher, by showcasing photographs, documents, and audiovisual materials that detail his contribution to Dominican cinematographic thought and his role in connecting Caribbean cinema.
In Menorca, the Menorca Doc Fest is featuring the work of Frank Adrover i Mercadal. Adrover, a photographer from Menorca who emigrated to the Dominican Republic, is recognized as a precursor of modern photography in the Caribbean. His technical expertise in manufacturing photographic plates and his photographic body of work are being explored through lectures and exhibitions, including the ‘Restrospectiva d’un poble IV’ cycle.
