Cultural festivals and theater premieres launch in Belgrade and Rijeka

The new season of Teatar humanosti has opened in Belgrade with the premiere of ‘Kovači’ (The Smiths), directed by Egon Savin. Produced by the Mozzart Foundation, the play is based on a text by Alek Pop. Set in a small town in eastern Germany, the story uses irony and absurdity to explore themes of modern alienation and the human search for happiness through a plot involving the attempted importation of passion from abroad.

In Croatia, the seventh edition of the TranziT festival of contemporary theatre practices is opening in Rijeka. The festival features a trio of award-winning dance works produced by the Slovenian En-Knap Institute. A highlight includes ‘Vulture’ by Taiwanese choreographer and dancer Ching-Ying Chieng, an internationally recognized artist and collaborator of Akram Khan. The performance explores themes of life, death, and transformation, inspired by Tibetan myth and the photography of Kevin Carter.
