Cultural festivals announced for Italian archaeological sites

Various cultural festivals are scheduled to take place at archaeological sites in Italy. In Giardini Naxos, the sixth edition of the “Interpretare l’Antico” festival, organized by Rete Latitudini, will run from August 20 to September 24 at the Teatro della Nike. The program features four shows, including “Dormono sulla collina” by Barbara Gizzi, and integrates prose, literature, music, and cinema to explore classical and modern myths.

In Calabria, the Armonie d’Arte Festival has announced a performance of “Carmen in flamenco” at the Parco Archeologico Nazionale di Scolacium. Scheduled for August 13, 2026, this event marks the only Italian date for the production. The performance, created by Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura, utilizes flamenco, farruca, and zapateado to reinterpret the themes of Bizet’s opera and Mérimée’s story.
