Cultural festivals announced for Marzamemi and Matera

Italy will host two significant cultural events in 2026 and upcoming dates. The sixth edition of the Marzamemi Book Fest is scheduled to take place from October 8 to 11, 2026, in the seaside village of Pachino, Sicily. Under the theme ‘Reading, Resisting’, the festival aims to use literature as a tool against indifference and technological passivity. The event will feature performances by students from the Accademia dell'Inda and presentations of various books.

Additionally, the seventh edition of the Matiff film festival will be held in Matera from September 26 to October 4. Dedicated to the Mediterranean, the festival will feature authors from 57 countries and includes an international competition across seven categories, such as feature films, documentaries, and animation. The program includes the ‘Mama-Matera Film Market’ and high-profile guests, including Sergio Castellitto, who will receive the Matiff Award ‘Acqua del cinema’. The festival will also host world premieres and masterclasses with industry professionals.
