Cultural festivals celebrate heritage in Slavonski Brod and Bilje

The third Pogača Fest took place on October 10 at Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Square in Slavonski Brod. Under the theme ‘Pogača through life,’ the event highlighted the importance of traditional bread in various life stages, including births, daily labor, holidays, and weddings.

Representatives from the Brod-Posavina, Vukovar-Srijem, and Osijek-Baranja counties presented regional varieties of pogača and shared local customs. The program included storytelling regarding the historical significance of the bread and educational panels for students to learn about preserved recipes and traditions.

In Bilje, the ‘Days of the Castle in Bilje’ event was held at the Eugene Savojska Castle park. The manifestation focused on historical reenactments, including depictions of the Ottoman occupation, Janissary school training, and medieval archery. Visitors participated in craft fairs, workshops, and viewed a medieval coin forge.
