Cultural festivals held in Heraklion and Chalki
Several cultural festivals are taking place in Greece. In Heraklion, the 3rd Walls Festival concludes with a performance by Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani. Piovani, who previously visited the area in 1982 at the invitation of Manos Hadjidakis, will present his work ‘The Travels of Odysseus’ at the Nikos Kazantzakis Garden Theatre. The piece features piano, double bass, saxophone, cello, and percussion, incorporating spoken word excerpts from Homer, Cavafy, James Joyce, Umberto Saba, and Torquato Tasso.
Simultaneously, the 5th Dimitris Kremastinos Music Festival, themed ‘Musical Roots’, is being held in Chalki in the Dodecanese. Under the artistic direction of Nikos Chalias, the festival features musicians from the Athens State Orchestra. The program includes performances by the Elysium Duo, the Darlington String Quartet from Australia, and a tribute to Giorgos Zambetas featuring the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and Kostas Makedonas.
