Cultural festivals highlight musical talent and sensory experiences

Recent cultural events in Salamanca and Mexico City have highlighted musical performances centered on themes of blindness and sensory experience.

In Salamanca, the Música ONCE Festival concluded on October 3, featuring over 40 artists with blindness or severe visual impairment. The event took place across venues such as Casa Lis, Casa de las Conchas, and the CAEM, showcasing diverse styles including pop, rock, jazz, and traditional Galician music.

In Mexico City, the Sala Nezahualcóyotl hosted ‘Informe sobre ciegos’, a musical and literary spectacle. The performance featured actor John Malkovich performing a monologue based on Ernesto Sábato’s novel, alongside pianist Anastasya Terenkova and the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM (OFUNAM). The production utilized darkness to allow the audience to partially experience the sensation of blindness while performing Alfred Schnittke’s Piano Concerto.
