Sarajevo hosts a slate of cultural events, from a Zagreb‑Sarajevo walk to the 8th Sarajevo Festa and street‑performance

A cultural walk – Šetnica kulture – that began in Zagreb with Croatian officials and local leaders was continued in Sarajevo at the invitation of Bosnia‑and‑Herzegovina’s federal minister of culture and sport, Sanja Vlaisavljević. The event honoured heritage and community ties, with participants including Bosnia’s Federation president Lidija Bradara and the Croatian ambassador Ivan Sabolić.

The 8th Sarajevo Festa, an international theatre festival, was presented at the National Theatre Sarajevo. Its 2026 edition carries the theme “Life” and features productions from Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Germany and Greece, such as the opening play “Death in Dubrovnik” (Montenegro) and a concert by Ukrainian cellist Denys Karachevtes. Festival organisers emphasised the message “Do not let death become our life.”

Later, artists from the National Theatre staged a surprise performance in front of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, announcing the “Kultura na ulice 2026!” street‑culture program. The show combined a ballet excerpt from Boléro with a choir piece, marking a series of free public performances scheduled from 28 August to 11 September 2026 under the support of the Sarajevo Canton government.
