Cultural festivals open in Belišće and Zagreb

Cultural events have commenced in Croatia with the opening of the 5th Comedy Month in Belišće and the 4th International Zagreb Opera Festival.

In Belišće, the 5th Comedy Month opened at the Sigmund Romberg Cultural Center with the production ‘Kulen ruž’. This co-production between the Joza Ivakić City Theatre Vinkovci and the Virovitica Theatre blends comic strip elements with theatrical performance to critique social norms through grotesque characters. The production was directed by Dražen Ferenčina based on a text by Dubravko Mataković.

In Zagreb, the 4th International Zagreb Opera Festival opened with a performance of Verdi’s ‘Aida’. The production is an international co-production involving the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Csokonai National Theatre in Debrecen. Directed by Mario Pontiggia and conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi, the performance featured Italian tenor Stefano La Colla in the role of Radames. The festival will continue through September 20, utilizing three different stages at the HNK Zagreb.
