Cultural festivals scheduled in Basilicata and Tuscany for August 2026

Two distinct cultural festivals are scheduled to take place in Italy from August 28 to 30, 2026.

In Rionero in Vulture, Basilicata, the “Briganti o Migranti” event will explore the history of brigandage in Southern Italy following the fall of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. This year’s theme, “Redemption or rebellion? The Church in the drama of brigandage,” examines the relationship between the ecclesiastical world and political power. The program includes conferences, folk music, gastronomy, and “La Parata dei Briganti,” an itinerant theater performance.

In Scrofiano, near Sinalunga, Tuscany, the Birranthology Extravaganza festival will focus on contemporary Japanese pop culture with the theme “Tokyo: Kaiju, Mecha, Cyborg.” The event combines craft beer with music, talks, and performances. The lineup includes artists such as Osaka Flue, Shandon, and Japanese composer Kashiwa Daisuke. The festival will also host discussions regarding the impact of kaiju, mecha, and cyborg imagery on human identity.
