Cultural film events announced in Jeju and across South Korea

The Jeju Content Agency will host a special event titled “Gender Equality, a Story We Watch Together” on September 2 to commemorate Gender Equality Week. The event features a screening of the film “Hidden Figures,” which depicts the true story of female scientists at NASA, followed by a guest visit (GV) session. The discussion will be moderated by Ko Myung-hee and include panels with cartoonist So No-sujeong and film director Ko Eun-ju to discuss gender equality, inclusion, and diversity.

Separately, the Korean Film Council is launching the “2026 Small Cinema Special Exhibition” starting September 1 at the Hallim Small Cinema in Jeju. This nationwide initiative will span 25 small cinemas across nine regions, including Gangwon, Gyeongnam, and Jeju, running through November. The exhibition, themed “Our Neighborhood Cine-Restaurant,” will showcase 91 films, focusing on popular Korean movies from the 2000s and various domestic animations.

Admission for these screenings is free. The small cinema exhibition will also include regional programs such as cine-talks, film music concerts, and AI production experiences to enhance local cultural infrastructure.
