Cultural food celebrations mark milestones in Chile and Mexico

The Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Mercados Campesinos program in Chile. Originally launched in 2016 in Colina to allow small-scale farmers to sell directly to consumers without intermediaries, the initiative has expanded to 220 permanent and seasonal sales points across all regions of the country.

The program supports 3,012 farmers, including 2,454 women, 710 members of indigenous peoples, and 211 individuals under the age of 40. These markets provide a platform for the direct sale of fresh produce, cheeses, honey, and other goods.

In Mexico, the fifth edition of the Chile en Nogada Festival is taking place in Mexico City’s Historic Center. The gastronomic route involves 60 establishments, including restaurants, hotels, and public markets, showcasing various interpretations of the traditional dish. Some establishments offer the dish with a batter (capeado) while others serve it without, catering to different culinary preferences.
