Cultural heritage and multimedia art projects announced in Romania
Several cultural and interdisciplinary projects are scheduled to take place in Romania, focusing on heritage and the intersection of art and science.
On September 25, 2026, the Dimitrie Brandza Botanical Garden of the University of Bucharest will host an event dedicated to the pastoral traditions of the Vrancea region. The program features 12 artists from the ‘Buciumașii’ Ensemble from Spulber, who will perform a repertoire of 12 ancestral pastoral signals played on the bucium. This initiative aims to preserve and document the unique sonic heritage of the area through audio-video recordings and intercultural education.
In November, the Brașov Art Museum will present ‘Protocol for Nature’, a multimedia and educational artistic project. Curated by Ioana Iuna Șerban, the project brings together new media artists, poets, and a biodiversity specialist to explore themes of interdependence and coexistence. The exhibition, running from November 7 to 20, will include five multimedia installations, a performance, and a poetry concert, using the concept of a ‘protocol’ as a metaphor for how living entities communicate and adapt within a fragile network.
