Cultural heritage events announced in Porto and Porto Santo

The Vela Votiva de Santa Marta de Portuzelo, recently added to the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, will be presented at the Casa das Artes in Porto. The presentation coincides with the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage on October 16. Created by artisan Álvaro Sales Gomes in the 1950s, the votive candle is a significant cultural element of the Santa Marta pilgrimage.

In Porto Santo, the 5th Podengo do Porto Santo Dog Show is scheduled for October 30 and 31. The event highlights the ongoing efforts to have the Podengo do Porto Santo officially recognized as an indigenous Portuguese dog breed by the Clube Português de Canicultura. The program includes a conference and a canine parade, aiming to promote the preservation of this local genetic and cultural heritage.
