Cultural heritage events scheduled in Weert and Leuven
Cultural events are scheduled in Weert and Leuven to highlight local history and heritage.
In Weert, city guides will lead an open walking tour of the De Lichtenberg national monument on October 11. Led by Jan Leenders, the tour explores the history of the former Bishop's College and its various complex components, including the 'Boostenzalen' gymnastics halls and the restored Mariakapel. The tour follows recent extensive restoration work on the site, which includes the theater area and surrounding structures.
In Leuven, the City Archives will host an Open Archive Day on October 10. This year’s event focuses on a unique collection of Leuven film posters, which include local, Belgian, and propaganda films. The program features a lecture by researchers Leen Engelen and Roel Vande Winkel, as well as a competition and various tours designed to make the city's extensive historical documents more accessible to the public.
