Cultural heritage initiatives launched in Romania and Moldova
New cultural and heritage preservation initiatives are being highlighted in Romania and Moldova.
In Romania, the Mountain Ecology Center Foundation is launching the 'Carpathian Gate Ecomuseum' between September and December 2026. Spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, the project focuses on the cultural and natural heritage of the Bran, Moieciu, and Fundata communities. The space is designed as an interactive living cultural site featuring permanent indoor and outdoor exhibitions, educational workshops, and meeting spaces for researchers, artisans, and community members to preserve both material and immaterial traditions.
In Moldova, the 'Anatol Candu' Museum in the village of Văsieni preserves local history through a collection of artifacts spanning nearly two centuries. The museum houses various items including blacksmithing tools, household implements like royal irons, and 1930s hair curlers. The collection also includes technical history, such as the village's first cinema from 1982, and historical structures like an 1840 barn constructed from woven willow.
