Cultural heritage initiatives launched in Spain

Spain is seeing a surge in heritage-focused initiatives aimed at historical research and social inclusion. In Marchena, the 10th Heritage Days opened with a focus on the historical archives of the Council of Castile. Eva Bernal Alonso, head of the National Historical Archive Section, presented how these documents reconstruct local life, covering topics from municipal elections and road repairs to education and religious brotherhoods.

Simultaneously, the Group of World Heritage Cities of Spain (GCPHE) has launched ‘Patrimonios compartidos’ (Shared Heritage). This social program aims to democratize access to historical sites for vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, migrants, and at-risk youth. The initiative includes guided tours, theatrical performances, and sensory workshops across fifteen cities, such as San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Cuenca, Alcalá de Henares, and Mérida, in collaboration with organizations like the Red Cross and ONCE.
