Cultural heritage preservation challenges in Colombia

In Ramiriquí, Boyacá, the local historical center faces threats from uncontrolled modernization and unjustified demolitions. Despite the Basic Land Use Plan (PBOT) establishing a Historical Heritage and Architectural Restoration Zone—which aims to protect sites such as the birthplace of former President José Ignacio de Márquez—the area is seeing an increase in modern construction that disrupts the aesthetic harmony of traditional adobe and tapia pisada structures.

In Bogotá, the District Institute of Cultural Heritage (IDPC) is increasingly recognizing culinary traditions as a form of intangible cultural heritage. This includes the systems of knowledge, social practices, and traditional processes related to the production, preparation, and consumption of food, as well as the relationship with the natural environment through culinary arts.
