Cultural heritage projects advance in León, Spain

Archaeological and historical preservation efforts are underway in León, Spain. The Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPCE) is launching a seven-month campaign at the Navatejera Roman villa. This state-owned site, which was the first Roman villa to be musealized in Spain, will undergo documentation, geophysical prospecting, and excavation to assess the conservation status of its structures and original mosaics.

Separately, the historic Tumbo Legionense codex has returned to the León Cathedral following a 14-month restoration process at the Simancas Conservation and Restoration Center. The 12th-century manuscript, which contains over 1,000 documents dating from 894 to 1171, serves as a vital record of the cathedral's administrative history, including wills, donations, and property rights.
