Cultural heritage projects use theatre to preserve local Italian memories

Various cultural and theatrical projects are highlighting local heritage and community memory across Italy.

In Celle di Macra, the Compagnia Teatrale Scavalcamontagne is presenting “Alzati e cammina” on August 23 as part of the CAMMINO 2026 tour. The performance uses the metaphor of the “Locanda dei Passi Ritrovati” to weave together stories of pilgrims, travelers, and emigrants through music and oral narration. The event is part of a broader initiative involving four ecomuseums in the Piedmont region to celebrate Alpine culture and local identity.

In Rende, Calabria, the “Return – Museo delle storie perdute” project concludes its second edition on August 27. Directed by Maria Grazia Bisurgi and promoted by the Collettivo ConimieiOcchi, the project uses the historic center of the town as a living stage. The final event, a multimedia pastoral experience, offers an immersive journey for a small group of spectators, utilizing sounds, images, and videos to explore the transformations of the local community and its historical traces.
