Cultural heritage sites highlighted in Canada and France
In Canada, the historical significance of Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage remains a focal point for Acadian identity. The site features a prominent monument to Alexis Landry, which includes bas-reliefs depicting the Acadian deportation, a miraculous catch of fish, and the arrival of the founders of Caraquet. The monument, inaugurated in 1956, commemorates the 75th anniversary of the first Acadian National Convention held in 1881. This convention established August 15 as the Acadian national holiday.
In France, the Minister of Culture, Catherine Pégard, visited the Calvados region to inspect restored heritage sites. The visit included the Sainte-Anne-D’Entremont chapel in Bernières-d’Ailly and the Château de Vendeuvre. The chapel, which dates back to approximately 1050, has been a site of pilgrimage and was recently restored through the combined efforts of the state, local authorities, and private donors.
