Cultural heritage sites in Naso and Ischia highlight Italian history

The town of Naso, located in the Nebrodi mountains, is promoting its integrated museum circuit, described as a terrace overlooking the Aeolian Islands. The circuit includes the Museo d’Arte Sacra, housed in the Catacombs of San Cono Abate, which showcases religious works such as wooden sculptures and maiolica. Other key sites include the Museo Arte e Mestieri del Territorio, the Pinacoteca Tano Santoro, and a hall dedicated to Francesco Lo Sardo. These institutions are part of the ANCI Sicilia Museums Network, a strategic initiative involving approximately 100 municipalities to valorize Sicilian cultural heritage.

On the island of Ischia, the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum at Villa Arbusto is participating in the Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange in Paestum. The museum highlights Ischia’s ancient roots, specifically its role in Mediterranean trade and cultural exchange during the 8th century BC. A significant artifact featured is the Nestor Cup, which contains one of the oldest known examples of Greek alphabetic writing found in the West.
