Cultural heritage sites in Spain and Panama face conservation efforts

Efforts are underway to preserve significant historical religious sites in Spain and Panama. In Cantabria, Spain, the coordinator RECUPERANDO has formally requested the regional government to intervene regarding the Colegiata de San Martín de Elines. The Romanesque monument, a declared Asset of Cultural Interest, faces issues with restricted access and neglect of its surroundings. The group noted that the Bishopric of Santander recently removed local access to the temple, complicating maintenance and tourism in the Valderredible region.

In Panama, the Ministry of Culture is evaluating conservation needs for the Basílica Menor de Natá de los Caballeros. This historic site, one of the oldest churches in the Americas still in use, is undergoing a multidisciplinary inspection to create a technical diagnosis for its preservation. These actions coincide with efforts to potentially grant the temple the status of a Pontifical Basilica.
