Cultural honors and losses: Angelica Buccigrossi wins award as Romano Folicaldi passes

Angelica Buccigrossi, a student from the Mattioli Liceo in Vasto, has won first place in the school section of the fourth edition of the Premio Luciano Lapenna. Her winning work, titled ‘Radici nella sabbia’, is a multimedia journey through family history. Using vintage photographs and documents, she reconstructed the life of her great-grandfather, Giuseppe Colaizzi, a soldier during World War II, exploring connections between Italy and Africa.

In separate news, the community of Fermo mourns the passing of Romano Folicaldi. A physician and prominent neorealist photographer, Folicaldi spent over forty years documenting the daily life, religious celebrations, and landscapes of the Marche region. His work, which focused on preserving collective memory through the faces and gestures of ordinary people, has been featured in numerous exhibitions across Italy, including Milan and Macerata.
