Oaxacan women musicians to perform at Palacio de Bellas Artes

The Mexican Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) will commemorate the International Day of Indigenous Women with a special concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The performance, titled ‘Música experimental en la mujer de Oaxaca’, is a collaboration between Colectivo Tgo and the CEPROMUSIC Ensemble.

Colectivo Tgo, a group of female violinists from various Oaxacan communities, will explore instrumental techniques, oral traditions, and cultural soundscapes. The project aims to safeguard the oral musical traditions of Oaxaca, a mission supported by the ‘Automodelo para las músicas de la tradición oral en Oaxaca’ program for the past decade.

Separately, the Chamber Orchestra of Bellas Artes (OCBA) is celebrating its 70th anniversary with its 2026 season. Running from September 4 to December 13, the season will feature Mexican music, contemporary premieres, and classical repertoire, aiming to bridge traditional sounds with new musical proposals.
