Cultural initiatives launch in Spain through storytelling and art

Fundación Multiópticas and Festival Eñe have launched ‘Con la mirada de un artista’, a short story competition for children aged 8 to 12 living in Spain. The initiative, part of the Eñe Minúscula section, aims to support Down España. Seven winning stories will be compiled into an illustrated book, and the authors will sign copies at the 2027 Madrid Book Fair. Participants must submit original, handwritten stories in Spanish or any co-official language by October 18, 2026.

In Bilbao, artist Steve McQueen has debuted a new sound-based installation at the Guggenheim Bilbao titled ‘66-76-26’. Located in room 105, the work utilizes the museum's architecture to create a sensory experience centered on a cappella voices. The piece connects the musical legacies of Nina Simone (1966) and David Bowie (1976) with a new intervention by McQueen in 2026, creating a dialogue with the building's design and nearby sculptures.
