Cultural institutions host events focused on historical memory
In Argentina, various institutions are organizing activities to commemorate the centenary of the ‘Ciclón de Encarnación’, a tragic natural event that occurred on September 20, 1926. A recent discussion held at the National University of Misiones (UNaM) focused on recovering historical anecdotes and reflections regarding the impact of the cyclone on the sister cities of Encarnación and Posadas. The commemorative agenda is a joint effort between the Misiones State Secretariat of Culture and the municipality of Encarnación.
In Mexico, Ex Teresa Arte Actual presented ‘Donde reposa el ídolo’, a project by artist Karla Kaplun. The work investigates the architectural and symbolic history of the former Santa Teresa la Antigua convent. The project includes an Atlas exploring the relationship between imagery, memory, and power, specifically focusing on the Christ of Santa Teresa. A second phase of the project is planned for 2027, which will involve the creation of an eight-meter-high triumphal arch designed to represent an exit from power rather than an entrance to it.
