Cultural legends return through immersive theater in Mexico and Guatemala

Cultural traditions and folklore are being brought to life through immersive theatrical experiences in Mexico and Guatemala.

In Xochimilco, Mexico, an immersive production of the legend of La Llorona will run from October 2 to November 22, 2026, at the Embarcadero Cuemancoy. Led by Pedro Nicolás López, the show features over 50 actors and utilizes the canals, live music, dance, and a monumental pyramid to tell a story connecting the figure of Cihuacóatl to a woman named Marina. The experience involves audiences navigating the canals on trajineras.

In Guatemala City, the ‘Recorridos de Leyendas’ event will hold two additional dates on November 6 and 7, 2026, at the Cerrito del Carmen park. In collaboration with Fundación Teoxché, the production ‘El Duende del Ático’ aims to revive oral traditions such as La Llorona, La Siguanaba, and El Sombrerón. The event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the capital's relocation to the Ermita valley, highlighting how local legends merged during that historical transition.
