Cultural performances scheduled in Guatemala and Cuba
In Guatemala, the theatrical production ‘Torotumbo’ is approaching its final performance at the Hugo Carrillo Chamber Theater. Directed by Emy Coyoy and adapted by Manuel José Arce, the play is part of a series of commemorative activities honoring the literary and artistic legacy of Nobel Prize winner Miguel Ángel Asturias. The production features 22 artists and is based on a short story from Asturias’s 1956 book, ‘Week-end en Guatemala’, which explores themes of social inequality and collective resistance through indigenous dance.
In Cuba, Rosario Cárdenas’s dance company will present the production ‘Ojalá’ at the Teatro Tomás Terry in Cienfuegos on October 16 and 17. Choreographed by Nelson Reguera, the piece explores how virtual environments influence the human relationship with the body. This performance is part of the Dance Season organized by Coliseo Mayor and marks the fourth collaboration between Cárdenas and Reguera.
