Cultural poetry events scheduled in Brazil and Portugal

Various cultural initiatives are celebrating poetry and the Portuguese language in Brazil and Portugal.

In Sorocaba, Brazil, the exhibition ‘Movimento Poético Nacional: 50 anos de Poesia, Memória e Cultura Brasileira’ is being held at Pátio Cianê Shopping. Organized by the Sorocaba City Hall through the Secretariat of Culture, the event features works selected by Shirley Ferro to commemorate five decades of poetry's role in Brazilian cultural identity. A public poetry reading (sarau) featuring several local writers is scheduled for Saturday, October 17.

In Trofa, Portugal, the municipality is hosting a poetry cycle spanning late October and November. The program includes three sessions: ‘Língua mãe’ on October 30 in Covelas, which explores the evolution of the Portuguese language; a session on November 13 in Muro focusing on contemporary authors; and ‘Os poetas não comem só sopa de letras’ on November 27 in the Casa da Cultura da Trofa, which explores the connection between poetry and Portuguese gastronomy.
