Cultural productions highlight Spanish historical figures
Cultural activities are highlighting historical figures in Spain through film and theater. In Valladolid, actor Fernando Cayo is portraying King Philip II for a short film being shot at the Palacio de Pimentel. The production commemorates the 500th anniversary of the monarch's birth in 1527, the same building that now serves as the seat of the Valladolid Provincial Council.
In Santiago de la Puebla, the play ‘Juan, el espíritu del amor’, written and directed by Denis Rafter, was performed in the local parish church. The production honors two Carmelite religious figures born in the town: Gerardo de San Juan de la Cruz, a historian known for his critical editions of Saint John of the Cross, and Florencio del Niño Jesús, a writer and historian who served in various international locations.
