Cultural programs advance gender equity in Mexico and student cinema in Venezuela

In Mexico, the Universidad de Colima and the Secretaría de Cultura have concluded the third module of an interdisciplinary diploma program focused on community management for sustainable development, gender equity, and a culture of peace. Led by instructor Ana Gabriela Herrera Ramos, the module titled ‘Gender, inequality and community relations’ encouraged participants to analyze how gender inequalities influence community dynamics and how such disparities might be unintentionally reproduced in intervention projects.

Participants worked to identify concrete actions to promote equitable participation by considering the specific needs and circumstances of various community members. The goal is to ensure that community and institutional projects foster greater inclusion and care rather than reinforcing existing social exclusions.

In Venezuela, the third edition of the Encuentro en Corto: Cine Estudiantil (EEC) 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 6 at the Cinemateca Nacional in Caracas. The event features a record 72 short films in fiction and documentary categories from 17 different educational institutions.

The academic program includes workshops and discussions on Venezuelan short films, new generations of filmmakers, still photography, and intellectual property rights for audiovisual creators. The programming concludes with a session celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cinemateca Nacional.
