Cultural programs in Spain expand accessibility for diverse audiences

Cultural institutions in Spain are implementing new accessibility measures to promote inclusivity. In Valencia, the city is celebrating International Day of Sign Languages with five free themed walking tours from September 23 to 27. These guided routes, which include sign language interpreters, focus on local heritage such as the Holy Chalice, San Vicente Ferrer, Ernest Hemingway, and ornamental fountains.

Similarly, the Veranos de la Villa program is integrating accessibility tools into its August schedule. These measures include audio descriptions, sign language, magnetic loops, and subtitling for theater, cinema, and exhibitions. Specific initiatives include scenic walks for individuals with visual or intellectual disabilities to familiarize themselves with performance spaces and costumes, as well as the use of NaviLens codes in exhibitions to enhance the experience for diverse audiences.
