Brazil hosts diverse cultural and educational initiatives

Various cultural and educational initiatives are being launched across Brazil. In Maranhão, the first edition of the Festival de Artes Cênicas Preta do Maranhão will take place in São Luís from October 13 to 17. Organized by Afrodite Produções, the free festival focuses on Black, Afro-Indigenous, and Afro-diasporic performing arts, featuring theater, dance, and workshops.

In Rio Grande do Norte, Professor Mariana Rodrigues de Almeida from UFRN won the 2026 POP Ciência Award for the ‘Meninas no Espaço’ project, which uses space themes to encourage girls in public schools to pursue science.

Other regional developments include the ‘Manzuá’ project in Ceará, which uses photography and video to document artisanal lobster fishing culture, and a training program by Mafro-UFPR in Paraná aimed at highlighting Black history in tourism. Additionally, Maricá is expanding its ‘Maricá das Artes’ program to bring workshops directly into municipal schools.
