Cultural radio programs highlight history, jazz, and social issues

Various cultural radio programs are highlighting historical milestones and contemporary social issues. Deutschlandfunk Kultur’s ‘Sonntagsrätsel’ features historical segments, including the mysterious disappearance of the L8 airship crew in California in 1942, the birth of Bavarian folk singer Josef Bauer, and the 1935 debut of the Magnetophon tape recorder at the Berlin Radio Exhibition.

In Austria, Ö1’s ‘On Stage’ covers performances from the Open Jazz Vienna festival, featuring musical duos such as Viola Hammer and Philipp Nykrin, Elena Schäfer and Christian Bakanic, and Mario Rom with Wolfgang Muthspiel. Additionally, Deutschlandfunk Kultur presents a feature titled ‘Altern auf Vietnamesisch,’ which examines the challenges faced by the aging Vietnamese immigrant community in Germany and the need for culturally and linguistically sensitive elderly care.
