Cultural reflections on estrangement and community in Italy

In Italy, diverse cultural and religious voices are addressing the concept of feeling like a stranger. Musician Gintsugi has released the EP ‘Strangers’, an exploration of the constant sense of estrangement experienced when moving between countries. The artist, an Italian living in France, noted that the project utilizes entirely analog electronic instruments to convey themes of identity and the process of moving forward through personal fractures.

In Terni, the newly installed Bishop of Terni-Narni-Amelia, Raimo, delivered a homily during his solemn installation emphasizing social cohesion. He defined a ‘stranger’ not only as someone from a different country or culture, but also as anyone perceived as distant, such as different generations or those struggling within a community. He called for a commitment to love and reconstruction rather than indifference or exclusion.
