Cultural theater productions highlight feminist perspectives in Mexico

Various theatrical productions are being presented in Mexico, focusing on contemporary reinterpretations of classical and social themes.

At Radio UNAM, the monologue ‘Adriana Tristeza’ by Alejandro Román, directed by Tania Ángeles Begúny and starring Yazmín Jáuregui, will be performed. The play addresses forced disappearance and violence against women, specifically recounting a real case of femicide in Tijuana involving a young woman connected to organized crime.

As part of the 2nd International Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Festival, ‘La Celestina. De mujeres y brujas’ is being staged at the Centro Cultural Helénico. Performed by Carol Delgado and directed by Jesús Torres of the Spanish company El Aedo Teatro, this production offers a contemporary feminist reading of Fernando de Rojas’ classic, told through the perspective of Elicia, Celestina’s maid.
