Cultural traditions celebrated in Tarija and Nava de la Asunción

In Tarija, Bolivia, the Fiesta Grande de San Roque is being celebrated with significant religious devotion. Mayor Johnny Torres highlighted that the festival's designation as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is a major milestone for the region, noting it is one of the few religious festivals in the country to receive such recognition. The festivities include a procession of the image of San Roque to the Luis de Fuentes plaza, followed by a traditional night event known as 'el encierro,' characterized by dancing and emotional expressions of faith.

In Nava de la Asunción, Spain, local traditions are also being observed, specifically the nocturnal bull run (encierro nocturno) which has been held since 1969. Mayor Juan José Maroto defended the tradition of popular bull running, distinguishing it from formal bullfighting, and emphasized the importance of maintaining local customs that are deeply demanded by the community. The festivities also feature religious processions involving the Santísimo Cristo de la Expiración.
