Cultural traditions continue in Aydın and Diyarbakır

Preparations are underway for the 744th annual Dedebağ Keşkek Hayrı in Aydın, a traditional event held for over seven centuries. To accommodate the expected crowds, cleaning and landscaping work has been completed at the Dedebağ recreation area, and maintenance has been finalized at the Dedebağ Tomb.

In Diyarbakır, the Dengbêj Evi in the Sur district continues to preserve the Kurdish oral literature tradition. Since its establishment in 2007 through a collaboration between the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and the Dicle Fırat Culture and Art Center, the facility has hosted approximately 150,000 visitors annually. The center serves as a cultural bridge where dengbêj performers practice their craft and pass oral history to new generations. While a master-apprentice project aims to transfer this heritage to youth, coordinator Ahmet Yılmaz noted that the initiative currently faces budget constraints due to public savings measures.
