Cultural updates: Tidal Settlers film and SALVIA single release

The film ‘Tidal Settlers’ by Juul Hondius is featured as part of the Into The Great Wide Open arts program from August 27 to 30. The work uses five screens to depict individuals navigating a tidal landscape, building rafts from found materials like wood and plastic to survive rising waters. The film serves as a metaphor for climate change and the various crises, such as war and political instability, that force people to abandon their homes.

In the music scene, the project SALVIA has released a new single titled ‘Falling Star’. Led by Nicole Selivan, a refugee from Ukraine who established her band in Brussels, the project focuses on a dark new wave sound characterized by hypnotic vocals and deep basslines. A debut album from SALVIA is expected to be released in November.
