Culture Minister Mendoni announces heritage projects in Thrace

Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni has announced several major cultural heritage projects in the Thrace region. During an inspection of ongoing works, she confirmed that the restoration of the Vayazis Mosque in Didymoteicho is nearing completion and is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026.

Additional developments include the selection of a contractor for the Didymoteicho Castle works, expected by late August, and the launch of tenders in early September for a €2.1 million protective roof at the Platinopolis archaeological site. The Ministry also plans to restore the Kytrios Papazian building and a wooden mansion in Agios Athanasios to provide them with new cultural uses.

Furthermore, Mendoni highlighted the protection of the burial tomb of Mikri Doxipara-Zoni in Orestiada, which will utilize an innovative underground protective shell and museological study to promote tourism and archaeological preservation in the region.
