Cumberland Council Schedules Roadworks on Market Square

Cumberland Council has announced a roadworks programme on Market Square that will run from 27 July 2026 to 7 August 2026. The works involve a branch connection on the school side of the carriageway, laying a new main through school grounds and reversing to disconnect mains feeding in from Station Road. Sequenced works are required on both sides of the A596, and the project is being carried out by United Utilities Water.

The council estimates very long delays for motorists during the period and advises drivers to plan alternative routes. The works are part of the council’s infrastructure maintenance schedule and are listed under roadworks reference 151501914.
